When I began searching for the middle-level macro lens, a few weeks ago I was, of course, the first Canon 60mm, as I have two Canon bodies.
But when I started looking around, reading reviews (particularly Fred Miranda site), and compare prices. I did more research, this target was more attractive. And finally, I decided to go with her.
Here’s why:
– price is the same as the Canon 60mm.
– I already have a Sigma EX kit lens (17-35mm), and really fun. I like the matte finish, and glass is excellent.
– For some reason I do not understand, not the Canon hoods in any medium-priced lenses that I saw. Sigma no.
– A higher focal length means I stay away from the topic – the minimum focusing distance is about 30 cm (12in). This is almost always beneficial.
This lens is not perfect, but, and here are a few uncertainties you to look for when buying:
– Dusk (ie, the majority of macro photography), this lens is to hunt. This can be a slow process, taking into account the length of the opening. Personally, I do not mind manual focus too much, so this does not bother me.
– This is not an HSM (Sigma version USM) lens. It is fed. This may not bother you, but I hardly even notice.
– Exchange / manual / autofocus mode is a two step process. Besides the clutch side of the barrel focusing ring requires a push-pull motion, sometimes a bit awkward. A little practice, it becomes less and less relevant – and if you leave it on manual most of the time (like me) you rarely have to worry about.
– Lens Hood is a screw-in, no screw or clip model. But this is offset by a rather deep recession of the glass lens tube. (If you want the lens to use and leave 77mm lens cap fits.)
Despite (I think a very minor) problems, I am very happy with this lens, and certainly the Recommend for anyone looking for mid-level macro lens
I got this lens about 3 months now Canon EOS 350D and Canon 5D. It is a supurb optics. On f2. 8, it is sharp. Posted by F3. 0 contributes, and the sharpness of images, approximately F14. Focusing on the mechanism is different than most other lenses, but I myself have learned to love. With the steering lock at the end of the lens in the AF, you can do in manual mode in two different ways. If you focus on, pull mechanism and you do not have to worry about trying to change the camera to focus and you do not take off your hand lens of the manual select button. Really really cool just a little different at first. Is a light, that weight was never an issue, although it broadens a lot, if you focus. Focus speed is not as fast and has a little engine noise, but even this is not a problem because all my good work is manual focus. As the telephoto lens, it works well, but the AF speed comes into play here. The hunting under certain conditions, such as telecommunications, but it’s pretty accurate.
Save your money and is very sharp pictures in this lens. Highly recommended!
Originally I wanted to depart from Nikon products, but the Sigma is definitely my attention. This is an excellent lens and the quality and performance. It works well in my Nikon D40, perfectly measured, and moreover, even if it is a manual focus camera, it is a place with auto-focus indicator (bottom left corner of the viewfinder). I recommend the lens for anyone who wants a macro! Do not worry, if you’re a Nikon D40 user, I was the first, and now I’m addicted to this lens! Do yourself a favor and buy one!
All my Four Thirds-compatible lenses, this has become a favorite. Sigma is sharp, fairly compact and has a true manual focus. Yes, the 50-200mm Zuiko cover this area and is just as sharp, but this lens is much smaller and lighter than the Olympus lens and, of course, the macro lens, which focuses much closer than the Zuiko 50-200mm.

Despite optimized for macro photography, this lens works well for general photography and has an anti-aliasing is a bit nicer than many of the admirable sharp Zuiko lenses. Macro policy objective is often to give the subject more than the Zuiko 50mm macro lens does, but this lens is not (as far as I can tell), able to mount Olympus Ring flash for macro work, so I use the Purely from ambient light and macro work (Edit: After I bought an Olympus live-in flash and it works very well through this lens can easily get a step ring adapter.)

I have discussed this and the 105 Nikkor, but $ 350 vs. $ 750, I decided to try and restore the Sigma if it was not satisfactory. It feels good to feel a very solid build, and although a bit slower than autofucus the AF-S NIKKOR lenses, that is fine, but all the macro shots that require manual focus, however.
